Retail?

I thought I would have a job through out senior year but the amount of college work and keeping up with school work kept me preoccupied. After submitting my college apps and the year is beginning to ease off, I now plan on having a simple after school job like at a retail store. So far, I have been notified of Walgreens and so I took it into consideration. I went to the one in Dorchester center and the manager had me apply there. The process took a while but since I was behind a desk, customers thought I was working there and could help them. I got to experience how the customers there were and they were not so bad. Either way I only want a part time job to save up a couple hundreds to finally buy my first car!

Feeling Official

Before the past summer of 2013, I had no idea of where I wanted to work over the summer. By the time it was June, I lost hope and was going to start looking for random minimum waged, easy jobs. Fortunately the week before that happened, I received a call from a pharmaceutical company in Cambridge called Genzyme. I had no chances to lose so I agreed to an abrupt interview and got accepted. That time I never heard of them yet teachers and friends told me how great and big of a company they were. I walked in the building and first thing I noticed were the indoor waterfalls, plush leather seats, glassed stairs and glassed elevators. There is a virtual tour on their website but I would recommend going there to experience the building. They pay very well but shocking to say that the money did not matter because it was such a great job. I was lucky enough to be the only intern with my own full office. The others had cubicles. Working there was fun because most of the time I stayed on the computer and phone with the others finishing my summer reading. Other than that, I got to meet and work with great doctors and other professionally skilled workers. I became close friends with my supervisors and my manager who is the General Counsel of Genzyme. I definitely plan on going back during of after college.

What’s Eating Gilbert Grape Movie Review

The film, “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” is about the complicated life of Gilbert who perseveres through out his life with family issues. This movie is an Academy Award and nominee of the Golden Globe 1994. The famous actors Johnny Depp and Leonardo Dicaprio played major roles in this movie. Gilbert, acted by Johnny Depp is a nice and kind young man who cares for his innocent mentally challenged younger brother Arnie who was acted out by Leonardo Dicaprio. Gilbert and the family also deal with their depressed and obese mother Bonnie who became like that after 17 years since her husband left. Gilbert struggles with his love life and works most of his time for the sake of the house he and his family inhabits and also for the family's financial benefits. Gilbert who watches most over Arney already has his hands full because at most time Arney can be hard to control. Donna dreams of seeing her son, Arney turn eighteen and she did right before she died a few seconds after going up a flight of stairs for the first time. At least before she passed away she allowed Gilbert who is her knight and shimmering armor to introduced her to a woman special in his life. This is important because she is insecure about her weight and paranoid about people thinking negatively about her. Overall in the end when she passed away, it was a sign to move on in life and to not be trapped in such a struggle so they burnt the house their father built as a symbol of freedom. I think the movie is mostly composed of subliminal or conceived meaning to it once you think about it. I think it should be more straight forward as it it were a drama or something.

An Exuberant Occupation

The summer of 2012 was my first summer working in a Hospital. To be honest, I had no idea what it would be like. I thought I were to be placed in a group of other interns and speculate medical procedures and such but that is not at all what it was like. The internship was more experiencing and catching. Fortunately I was able to work in different departments of the hospital such as cardiology, employee health and the pain clinic. Of course there were times when people came bursting into the hospital with open injuries. I actually thought it was cool only after treatment because then the patient would not be screaming from pain and getting dramatic. I also recall meeting so many professional basketball players. I was mind blown to meet some NBA stars and to actually witness the really lavish and luxurious cars that they were driven in. I can also never forget the many hands on experiences I was given with the medical tools and procedures. Working at the hospital was a very interesting thing for me. I was influenced by the new information I learned everyday and the great working environment.

Working with Transportation

No one really likes public transportation, at least the one in my city. Public Transportation is not so reliable and you tend to encounter the worst and clueless people. I thought working for the Transit in high school would be embarrassing but It wasn't because I was getting paid well. That year, I recall waiting for my weekly deposits every Friday. Throughout that internship though, I actually did work. They had me work like I was an official employee but with the money I was getting paid, I did not complain. In addition, I realized how I was needed and most helpful in the environment. Doing simple administrative-like work everyday of the week for two hours after school was not a nuisance. This internship was beneficial for me because I learned so much about business and acquired various skills for future occupations. My managers admired me and thought I had "great potential" so because of that I made plenty of references. I was able to have an internship there for two years. I plan on working there again but in due time because senior year has consumed most of my time lately.

About Me

I know there are numerous factors to what makes up a person. I try to think about what makes me who I am but I just don't know where to start. I guess I'll basically start with saying that I am a seventeen year old senior in high school. I describe myself based on what the majority of the people I know say about me. I am that open person that stands out with a kind heart and friendly personality. Shocking to say that I have already done five internships since I turned fifteen. I think internships are very beneficial for future occupations and plus I love getting paid. As a teen striving for new things, money is my motive so I work hard for it. This blog will be about my past internships, what they were like and where I plan working.

First Internship

An internship during the humid summer in a college campus with paid breaks, free bus passes, air conditioning and getting paid to do legit nothing serious but pretend like you're paying attention. What more could a fifteen year old want for his first internship. I guess the only drag I could complain about was how it was mandatory for the interns to dress up professionally. That was complain-able because there were so many days where it was really humid out and as a guy, a tie and a pair of pants did not keep me comfortable outside the air conditioned buildings. What was weird though was how my internship program seemed like the only program that had their interns dress professionally. I realized this on the teen conferences that were held every Friday in the college's ice hockey field since it was so huge. The teen conference included interns from so many other internship programs across the city. Being the only ones to dress up for a small internship just made us seem like we were doing too much. Mind you we were like fifteen and sixteen. The teen conferences were really fun though. No one really went along with the routines assigned by the mentors. Everyone sidetracked to another subject and started making new friends. I became friends with a bunch of people of all kinds. This one crazy chick for music kept asking me about Nicki Minaj. This one awkward dude who kept trying to spin a basketball on his finger the whole time and decides to ask me the last minute "sooo why are you dressed up?" I met this other girl who was self-conscious about everything. Dear Lord, I was replying to a text and she asked me if I was saying something about her. The list goes on, I met people from the wannabe Chief Keef gangsters to those ordinary chill folk. Three years later I look back and think that summer internship was a great experience only because I got paid to make new friends.
As you can see, no one dressed up and it wasn't mandatory to wear the company t shirt but can you imagine being one of the very few that had to dress up on a hot summer day?
